I don’t think I’ve written the word “puppet” so many times in my life. Funny how a sudden burst of inspiration makes cool stuff happen.
All too familiar with all the things he had done or not done in his life, novelist Keiichiro Hirano had trouble accepting himself as a “good” or a “bad” person, until he realized that maybe he was a bit more complicated than that.
so one of those “fantasy writing masterposts” was drifting across my dash earlier, and I clicked on the link about the fantasy cliche meter: the bad guys. because villains are hard and I wanted to see what they considered a cliche and it involved checking boxes so that’s fun.
My current villain scored 24, but his rather prosaic desire to overthrow the kingdom and complete lack of epic magical ability or red eyes or cool death-inspired name appear to have saved him from being a cliche. Yay?
My actual Big Bad gets 12.
My decoy antagonist gets 41. :)
